Which advisor tasks can AI take over?

In Streetbeat's model of a 40-hour advisor week, AI returns about 15 hours: 8 in client-facing work, 3 in administration and 4 in investment management. The largest cuts are in trading and rebalancing, meeting preparation and financial planning, where the work is gathering, checking and drafting. Prospecting, compliance and practice management keep their full time.

How is an advisor's week split today?

The model starts from a 40-hour week divided into 3 blocks. Client-facing work takes the largest share, but almost a third of it is preparation and problem solving around the conversation, not the conversation itself.

BlockHours per weekShare of the week
Client-facing activities23h 36m59%
Administration9h 26m24%
Investment management7h 00m17%

Do independent surveys see the same week?

2 independent studies measured how advisors and relationship managers spend their time. A global survey of 2,700 financial professionals ran between June and August 2024. An industry report on wealth management surveyed 1,317 relationship managers in 24 markets in 2026.

Categories differ between studies, so compare shares, not exact hours. Client meetings take about a quarter of the week in both the model (24%) and the 2024 survey (23%). The relationship manager survey found that operational work takes 41% of relationship managers' time, the kind of work AI is best placed to reduce. The model assigns less time to compliance (5%) than the 2024 survey respondents report (8%), so its compliance estimate is conservative.

Which tasks does AI shorten the most?

The saving is uneven. It is largest where the work is gathering, checking and drafting, and close to zero where the work is the relationship itself or a judgment the advisor signs.

Which tasks stay with the advisor?

The model assigns no saving to 4 activities, which together take 9h 44m a week:

TaskTime per week
Prospecting for new clients3h 26m
Practice management2h 38m
Compliance1h 50m
Professional development1h 36m

This matters for the business case. Prospecting is where freed hours are meant to go: the model only turns into revenue if the 15 hours move to new clients and to more frequent contact with existing ones.

What does AI do in each of these tasks?

TaskWhat the AI Suite for Advisors does
Preparing for client meetingsBuilds a client brief with profile, portfolio and market outlook, in one view.
Financial planningGenerates portfolio proposals aligned with the client's goals and constraints, for advisor review.
Trading and rebalancingMonitors drift across the book and proposes rebalancing, with the reasoning attached.
Research and monitoringAnswers questions on markets, companies and macro data, enriched with the bank's own research.
Day-to-day operationsDrafts follow-ups and configurable CRM updates after each contact.
Client meetingsBrings live client context and compliance checks into the conversation.

Every proposal is a draft. Recommendations and messages reach the client only after the advisor reviews them.

How can a firm check this model on its own advisors?

Measure the same tasks before and after, on a pilot group and on a control group:

StepWhat to measure
1. BaselineTime per task before AI, using the categories above.
2. PilotThe same measurement while a pilot group uses AI.
3. ReallocationWhere the freed hours went: prospecting, client contacts, meetings held.
4. OutcomeClients served per advisor, proactive contacts and fee revenue per client.

A task that gets shorter without the hours moving elsewhere is a cost saving at best. See the benefits of AI for wealth managers for the metrics that link capacity to revenue.
